The word Ramadan comes from the Arabic root ramiḍa or ar-ramaḍ, which means scorching heat or dryness. Fasting is fard(obligatory) for adult Muslims, except those who are suffering from an illness, travelling, are elderly, pregnant, breastfeeding, diabetic, chronically ill or menstruating.

With the beginning of Ramadan,
may your home be filled with the atmosphere of love and mirth.
May your life be as wonderful as you are throughout the year.
Ramadan Mubarak!

May this Ramzan bring
endless moments of
joy and happiness
in your life.
Ramzan Mubarak.

May the crescent moon
be your guiding light,
and its power,
fill your life with,
peace and grace.
Ramzan Mubarak.

You are not alone.
Allah is always with you,
to guide you and love you.
Happy Ramzan.

Fasting the month of Ramadan was made obligatory (wājib) during the month of Sha’ban, in the second year after the Muslims migrated from Mecca to Medina. Fatwas have been issued declaring that Muslims who live in regions with a natural phenomenon such as the midnight sun or polar night should follow the timetable of Mecca, but the more commonly accepted opinion is that Muslims in those areas should follow the timetable of the closest country to them in which night can be distinguished from day.

Celebrations in India and the rest of the Indian subcontinent share many similarities with regional variations, because a large part of the Indian subcontinent was ruled as one nation during the days of the Mughal Empire and British Raj. The night before Eid is called Chaand Raat, which means, “Night of the Moon”. Muslims in these countries will often visit bazaars and shopping malls with their families for Eid shopping. Women, especially younger girls, often apply the traditional Mehndi, or henna, on their hands and feet and wear colourful bangles.

May the divine Allah bless you with peace and harmony.
Wishing you more blessings this holy Ramadan.
Ramadan Mubarak!

This Ramadan, I pray for your wellness and
sending loads of prayers your way.
Happy Ramadan.

I am praying that abounding happiness
will find you as you are walking down the street.
Happy Ramadan!
